Fence Repair & Construction
Those undertaking fence repair and construction should be aware of the essential precautions to be taken to ensure a long lasting fence. This is important because whether you are constructing a fence or repairing it the principles of ensuring a sturdy fence are the same.
When undertaking fence repair and construction you need to ensure that the posts are placed properly. For this the corner posts should be placed first and a line drawn between them. The other fences should be placed evenly at six or eight feet intervals between them on the line. The positioning of the posts is important as they will support the fence. To ensure that the posts are firmly anchored to the ground, one-third of their length should be under ground.
When using wooden posts as part of your fence repair and construction project you need to treat the bottom portion that will be buried with wood preservative. The post should be left in the wood preservative overnight to ensure it penetrates the wood and becomes effective.
Another way of ensuring that the posts are not damaged by water after they have been planted in the ground as part of your fence repair and construction project is to place gravel at the bottom of the post. This will help drain the water and prevent the wood from becoming damaged.
The post holes will also have to be sealed with concrete once the posts have been placed inside them. When doing this the concrete should be packed tightly to eliminate air bubbles. Additionally, the concrete should be mounded at the base and slope away from the pole to prevent water logging.
When you take the time and make the effort to plant the posts carefully for your fence repair and construction project, the fence will stand longer.
